In a significant boost to law and order in Uttar Pradesh, the proactive efforts of the Yogi Adityanath government to streamline access to the judicial process are now yielding substantial dividends.

The latest report from the Uttar Pradesh State Legal Services Authority underscores the pivotal role played by Lok Adalats in the state, expediting case resolutions and rescuing individuals from the complexities of the legal system.

According to the report, a total of six Lok Adalats were established between 2022-23 and 2023-24, resulting in the disposal of a staggering 3.30 crore cases. This accomplishment positions Uttar Pradesh among the leading states in India in terms of cases resolved through Lok Adalats.

The report further reveals that out of the 3.30 crore cases disposed of, 2.93 crore were successfully resolved through pre-trial procedures, while 37.09 lakh cases were addressed as pending matters. Notably, during the Lok Adalat convened on March 12, 2022, an impressive 28.3 lakh cases were resolved through pre-trial processes, alongside the disposal of 4.24 lakh pending cases.

Subsequent Lok Adalats continued to deliver outstanding results. The Lok Adalat held on May 14, 2022, facilitated the resolution of 36.70 lakh cases through the pre-trial process, complemented by the efficient handling of an additional 4.95 lakh pending cases.

The Lok Adalat on August 13, 2022, addressed more than 50.60 lakh cases, with even higher numbers on November 12, 2022 (62.17 lakh cases), February 11, 2023 (67.09 lakh cases) and May 21, 2023 (76.25 lakh cases).

The efficient functioning of Lok Adalats in addressing criminal and arbitration-related disputes is widely benefiting the residents of Uttar Pradesh. As per the report from the UP State Legal Services Authority, three Lok Adalats were established in the state from 2022 to 2023 specifically to handle criminal cases. Out of these, 1.01 lakh cases were heard in the Lok Adalat convened between November 9 to 11, 2022, 1.06 lakh cases between February 8 and 10, 2023, and more than 86,000 cases between May 18 to 20, 2023, resulting in the disposal of over 2.94 lakh cases. Additionally, Lok Adalats have successfully resolved more than 10,474 mediation cases since 2022.

The Uttar Pradesh State Legal Services Authority’s concerted efforts to enhance access to justice and expedite case resolutions through Lok Adalats are undeniably making a significant impact on the lives of the state’s citizens. This initiative is not only bolstering confidence in the legal system but also contributing to the overall improvement of law and order.
