local social activists intervened in Yadav Singh case by asking CBI probe

With state government already placed controversial chief engineer of Noida Authority, Yadav Singh under suspension, a local social activists sought legal intervention to get the matter probed by sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

A Public Interest litigation (PIl) has been filed by social activist, Nutan Thakur in the lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court, on Wednesday. Thakur in her PIl sought a CBI enquiry in the matter claimed that the State government’s inactions in this case is quite apparent. Similarly the direct and indirect patronage given to Yadav Singh by top politicians and bureaucrats in the period of Mulayam Singh, Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav are all too apparent.

Hence any impartial enquiry in the matter can be undertaken only by the CBI, she claimed. In addition, Nutan Thakur has prayed for appointing Judicial Enquiry Committee under a retired Judge to fix the responsibilities of the officers and to devise ways to stop recurrence of such episodes in future. She claimed that the conduct of the officers in the Crime Branch Crime Investigation Department (CB CID), who earlier probed scam of over 954 crores in which Yadav Singh was an accused, should be looked during the probe as it is surprising that the man who had earned huge wealth was earlier given clean chit by them.

It may be mentioned that within 24-hours of placing Yadav Singh, under suspension, state government initiated further proceedings on Tuesdaywhen it also suspended two more Noida Authority officers who were alleged to be having nexus with the chief engineer, accused of amassing wealth through illegal means.

Both the accomplices of Yadav Singh, identified as assistant project engineer, Ramendra Singh and accountant, Pradeep Sharma, have been suspended after an Income Tax report figured their names in the multi-crore rupees scam. Sources here said these two officials were in nexus with Singh in giving around 5,000 tenders of the Noida authority to fake companies.

On Monday, Singh was suspended by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav after Income Tax department had submitted its report to the government regarding the raid on Singh. An IT raid last month had unearthed unaccounted cash money of more than Rs 12 crore, two kilograms of diamonds and documents of 40 fake companies from Singh.
