local court cancels criminal cases against Mulayam

In a major respite to Samadwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, a local court in Mahoba had quashed two criminal cases filed against the former UP chief minister.

District session judge Chaitan Kumar Kulshestra in his order has quashed both the cases including a  contempt case against Mulayam Singh Yadav saying  that it was against the Constitutional norms and the court had no power to do so.

Public prosecutor (criminal) Indrapal said in Mahoba that the first case against the SP president was filed under section 504,505,509 and 116 of the IPC over his reported statement to favour of rape accused. While the second case was a contempt filed by the civil judge Ankit Goel, who filed the first case, against Mr Yadav and Mahoba district Yuvjan Sabha president Bhagirath Yadav for putting pressure on the house owner who had given his house on rent to the judge.

The court while quashing both the cases said that the judge of Kulpahar Mr Goel had no power to issue summons for appearance of SP president in the court.  Earlier the Allahabad High Court had suspended the judge Ankit Goel for superseding his authority.
