The lok Gathbandhan Party (lGP) expressed concern over the continuing deaths of children at Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College in Gorakhpur and held the medical college brass, state Medical and Health services and Medical Education departments responsible for the losses. In the last few days, as many as 58 children have died in the medical college.

The party said that even after a lapse of three months of continued deaths, no corrective measures have been taken to save the ailing children.

A party spokesperson said on Monday that it was gross criminal negligence on part of medical college and state government officers and called for strict action against all those responsible for thee high number of deaths.

The spokesperson recalled that during August- September this year, nearly three dozen children and some other patients died due to sudden disruption of oxygen supply in different wards of this college.

Thereafter there have been regular reports of deaths of children every now and then, during the last three months, which reflected the utter negligence and apathy on part of the government and its concerned departments.

Expressing deep anguish and concern over the continued deaths, the party asked the state government to launch a drive across the state to ensure supply of life saving drugs, oxygen and various other important equipment necessary for saving precious lives of children and patients.

The spokesperson said that despite spending millions from the government exchequer on medical and health services annually, the facilities available at state-run institutions were inadequate and mismanaged.

The spokesman said that the situation in rural is was of grave concern and departments responsible for medical education and health in the state required urgent reorganization and weeding out of prevalent corruption.

“Unless the departments of Medical Education and Medical and Health Services of the state are taken to task by the government, such deaths would continue to happen,” the spokesman said.
