The state government has dispatched a letter to Department of Personal and Training (DoPT) in Delhi recommending a probe by Central Bureau of Investigation into the suicide by Additional SP of Anti-Terrorists Squad (ATS), Rajesh Sahni few days back.
“We have already sent a letter to the Centre seeking a CBI probe into Sahni’s death,” said Principal Secretary (Home) Arvind Kumar in lucknow on Friday.
Sources said that on the UP government’s request the Centre to asked CBI to immediately submit a primary report in the matter so that a final decision could be taken whether to go ahead with the probe or ask the UP Police to carry on the probe.
Sources also said that so far no written complaint in the case against anyone has been made and hence the CBI was seeking legal opinion whether they should take cognizance on their own and register a Primarily Enquiry (PE) before registering a case or not.
Meanwhile, the pressure of senior officers on their juniors again came to the fore as ATS Inspector, Yatinder Sharma, who submitted his resignation and uploaded it on his Facebook account, backtracked a few hours after meeting DGP, OP Singh.
“What transpired between the DGP and the Inspector that within hours of putting in his paper, Sharma withdrew it claiming that he had become emotional but has now decided to withdraw it and work with the ATS.
Sources said that some other ATs officials also submitted requests to shift them to some other wing as they did not feel comfortable in the elite anti-terror force.
On Wednesday night, Inspector Yatinder Sharma sent a letter to DGP, OP Singh, claiming that he was resigning from the UP POlice due to harassment by senior officials including IG (ATS) and his blue-eyed officials.
“When an honest and dedicated officer like Rajesh Sahni could meet with such fate, then there was no reason to continue as a police officer,” asserted Sharma, who joined UP Police as a sub-inspector in 2001 through direct recruitment.
Asking the DGP to accept his resignation as he was unable to work in the present circumstances and demanding a high-level probe into Sahni’s death, Sharma also said that after this letter, if something happened to him or his family, then IG (ATS) Aseem Arun be held directly responsible.
