leaders from different walks of the life has demanded from the Uttar Pradesh government to immediately constitute a probe Committee as directed by the Allahabad High Court to find out whether Gumnami Baba alias Bhagwan ji was Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Senior politician and a 5-term MlA from Rae Bareli Akhilesh Singh said that the UP government should not delay in setting up the Committee as directed by the HC. “The people should know whether Bhagwanjee, who died in 1985 in Faizabad, was Netaji as per the evidences found after his death,” he told The Pioneer on Sunday.

He got support from BJP when party’s spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said the UP Government should follow the directives issued by the High Court. The issue came in public when recently it was reported that the family members of the Bose family were under the lens of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) for at least 20 years. The meeting between Grand nephew Surya Kumar Bose with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Berlin has given more thrust to the issue. The family members of Netaji too ruled out his death in a plane crash as reported.

“The state government  must ,without any delay, set up a multi-disciplinary inquiry with powers of a civil court to summon any person from any part of the country and required him to furnish information under oath, and requisition any official record from any State or Central Government office,” Singh said. The Court had directed UP Government to set up a museum in Faizabad or Ayodhya in order to preserve the belongings of Bhagwanji, supervised by a curator. On 31 January, 2013 the HC had asked the Uttar Pradesh Government to constitute within three months “a team of experts and higher officers, headed by a Retired Judge of High Court, to hold an enquiry with regard to the identity” of the mysterious reclusive monk, known as Gumnami Baba or Bhagwanji, who spent the last few years of his life at Faizabad. The UP government is reported to have moved a revision petition on the directive.

Faizabad divisional Commissioner Vishal Chauhan said that no one has contacted him so far over the Gumnami Baba issue. “The articles of Gumnami Baba is well preserved in the district treasury,” he said. Gumnami Baba died on September 18,1985 and has been cremated at Guptara ghat on the banks of Saryu in Faizabad. A report said that on August 18, 1945 Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was seriously injured and badly burned in a plane crash in Taihoku airport, Taiwan and is believed to have passed away in a nearby Japanese military hospital. The HC gave its direction in response to petitions filed by lalita Bose(daughter of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s elder brother Suresh Chandra Bose) and others.
