Bahujan Samaj Party president and former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati, remembered Sant Ravidas on his birth anniversary but also took the opportunity to attack the opponents calling their similar gesture nothing but an effort to make political gains.
Through a tweet on Sunday, the BSP supremo said, "Salute to saint Guru Ravidas on his birth anniversary, who gave the immortal message of `man changa to kathoti mein Ganga’. He (Sant Ravidasji) believed that no one needed to go anywhere. If the mind is pure then God can be seen within.”
“My tributes to Sant Ravidas. Congratulations and best wishes from me and BSP to all his followers living in the country and the world,” she tweeted.
On the birth anniversary of Sant Ravidas, leaders of various political parties are paying tributes to him by tweeting that the people of the country and the state should take a pledge to follow the path shown by Saint Ravidas.
“The ruling class and many others should not bow down to Guru Ravidasji just for the sake of their narrow political interests,” she further tweeted while targeting the rival parties. Mayawati claimed that if they wanted to give true tribute to Sant Ravidasji then they must make special efforts in the interest and welfare of the poor, the deprived class who always remained followers of the great saint.
Meanwhile, various programmes were organised everywhere on the birth anniversary of Sant Ravidas. Along with remembering the great saint, people also discussed his relevance in the present times.
