Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav hit out at the Uttar Pradesh government, saying that law and order had collapsed due to the politics of hate and intolerance pursued by the Bharatiya Janata Party regime.
He said journalists were being attacked while heinous crimes were rising and the UP government owed an explanation to the people on how the criminals were flourishing in the state.
“The role of the police in dealing with crime and criminals is suspect as in many cases policemen have been found to be conniving with criminals and instead of addressing the grievances of the people, they were protecting criminals,” the SP chief charged in a statement on Wednesday.
“Ever since the BJP came to power in 2017, there has been no let-up in incidents of attack on media persons across the state as journalists are at the receiving end of the mining and land mafia .The people have become vulnerable as they have nowhere to go to seek justice as petty criminals with police protection are committing crime with impunity,” Yadav said.
The SP chief said that the claims of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath about law and order situation in the state had lost credibility as the BJP leaders were involved in all kinds of nefarious activities like illegal mining, smuggling of illicit liquor.
