land records to be digitized soon

The UP government has initiated process to digitise land records in 60,000 Gram Sabha aiming to put an end to longstsnding land disputes and help Revenue officials to identify the exact land tract by the click of the mouse.

For this, private entrepreneurs have been invited to set up e-kiosks at each Gram Sabha which would make the work prompt and transparent. These e-kiosks would be over and above Jan Sewa Kendras set up in many parts of the state – particularly at the Tehsil level.

A senior official said that private players have been invited to set up optical fibre in each Gram Sabha to speed up data flow and the government has even held parleys with telecom majors, who claim 4G services.

This is not part of Digital India project launched by the Union Government as UP Government had earlier launched National land Record Modernisation Programme (NlRMP). This pilot project was launched in five districts to preserve land maps. Over 6,000 villages in five districts - Mathura, Barabanki, Ghaziabad, Hapur and Jaunpur, have benefited as all these have digitized maps.

“This scheme has been a great success and now the state government has plans to extend it across the state. The CM wants technology to reach people at the earliest. So, the Revenue department has decided to rope in private players which will not only speed up the pace of work but also ensure transparency in government working,” the official said.

The beginning has been made from Bundelkhand, where Jhansi Development Authority has invited tenders for digitization and super imposition of all Revenue villages of the district. The satellite imagery would be of 385 km.

“Once we have digitized information about villages, other things will fall in place. The biggest advantage of this campaign would be solution to land disputes. When clear cut boundaries are earmarked with khasra and khatauni numbers, it would be easy for Revenue officers to resolve issues with the click of the mouse,” the official said.
