Lack of measurement delays stitching of sacred attire for Ram Lalla

In the serene vicinity of Vashishtha Kund, where the rhythmic hum of machines echoes within the workshop of Bhagwat Prasad Pahadi, a master tailor entrusted with the monumental task of stitching the attire for Ram Lalla, an unexpected hurdle has brought the needle and thread to a temporary pause.

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust overseeing the construction and preparations for the revered Ram temple in Ayodhya is yet to provide the crucial measurements of the main idol of Ram Lalla.

This unforeseen delay has rippled through the meticulous preparation of the sacred clothing, leaving artisans and devotees alike on edge.

Bhagwat Prasad Pahadi, a seasoned tailor who has stitched garments for the divine for years, expresses his predicament with a mix of dedication and concern. Without the essential measurements from the trust, he finds himself unable to commence the intricate stitching process required for Ram Lalla’s attire.

Undeterred, Pahadi assures that upon receiving the green signal, all garments for Ram Lalla will be meticulously crafted and ready within a maximum of two days.

Presently, Bhagwat has stitched three distinct costumes for the revered idol – one in pristine white, another in auspicious yellow and the third in vibrant red.

However, Champat Rai, the representative of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, has disclosed only partial information regarding the idol, stating that it would be 51 inches in height and would be of ‘shyam varna’, a dark complexion.

Other specifications crucial for the precise stitching of the attire remain undisclosed, contributing to the unexpected pause in the garment creation process.

Despite this temporary setback, Bhagwat Prasad Pahadi finds himself inundated with orders from devoted patrons not only within the state but across the entire country. Calls and enquiries are pouring in from places as diverse as Jaipur, Madhya Pradesh, Makrana, Gujarat, and Haridwar, Uttarakhand, underscoring the widespread demand for meticulously crafted attire for Ram Lalla.

“So far, I have made over 25,000 dresses and more orders are pouring in. This shows the unwavering devotion and faith of the people in Ram Lalla,” Bhagwat Prasad Pahadi said.

The meticulous work of crafting the wardrobe for Ram Lalla involves a budget of approximately Rs 10,000. This comprehensive set comprises three intricately designed curtains, a large bedsheet, six smaller bedsheets, six colourful dupattas, and a quilt that bears the essence of devotion and craftsmanship.

Bhagwat says each day is dedicated to a specific colour for Ram Lalla’s attire. White is stitched for Monday, red for Tuesday, green for Wednesday, yellow for Thursday, cream for Friday, blue for Saturday and pink for Sunday. This adherence to a weekly colour code adds a symbolic and spiritual dimension to the attire.

As Ayodhya continues to be a focal point of spiritual and cultural significance, the meticulous preparation of every element associated with the revered deity stands as a testament to the devotion and reverence that permeate this sacred city.
