As the Opposition rallies against PM Narendra Modi's demonetisation decision at the Parliament, state president of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) KK Sharma threatened to immolate himself in front of PM’s Delhi residence on December 12, demanding adequate compensation to those who died as a sequel to the decision.

"I am completely with Modi on demonetisation for combatting terrorism, black money and counterfeit currency. But I demand that the PM should be sympathetic towards those who died waiting in queues to change their currency. There were others who died as they could not withdraw money to marry off their daughter or povide treatment to their kin”, Sharma asserted on Friday afternoon.

"The PM Minister should declare all those killed as 'martyrs' and give them Rs 50 lakh compensation and a government job to one of the family members,” suggested Sharma, threatening that if his demands were not met, he would attempt `self-immolation in front of PM’s residence at lok Kalyan Marg in New Delhi on December 12.

Sharma said that he was forced to take the decision as he was depressed to see Modi showing no sympathy towards the masses particularly those who had money in banks, but failed to use it for marriage of their daughters, treatment to their relatives and were dying in trying to withdraw money from banks.

If PM Modi does not take concrete decisions in this regard by December 5, then he and other NCP leaders from the state will start `Pranutsarg Yatra’ from Deoria on December 7 and reach New Delhi on December 12. later they would go to PM’s house where he would immolate himself.

Meanwhile in Ballia, an elderly woman died while standing in a queue outside a bank on Thursday afternoon. A case was registered in this regard.

Indrasani Devi (70) was standing for over three hours in a queue outside Central Bank branch at Ratsad locality on Thursday afternoon when she was taken ill. She died due to heart failure while being taken back to her home. As her family did not have cash for her cremation, the victim's daughter-in-law had to stand in the queue at the same bank to withdraw money for it.
