State Congress president finally declared Uttar Pradesh Congress Election Committee (UPCEC) which also included Vice-President of All India Congress Committee Rahul Gandhi and all the ministers representing the State.
Interestingly Khatri is yet to constitute a permanent Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee and even Election Committee was announced by him when AICC had already declared the Screening Committee. It may be mentioned that Screening Committee’s role only came when State Election Committee made some recommendation for review but still Khatri failed to take the initiative.
Making announcement of UPCEC in New Delhi after approval of Party present Sonia Gandhi and State incharge, Madhusudan Mistri on Saturday evening, Nirmal Khatri claimed that besides him, Rahul Gandhi, union ministers Beni Prasad Verma, Salman Khurshid, Shreeprakash Jaiswal, R P N Singh, Pradeep Jain Aditya, Jitin Prasad, P l Punia, Raj Babbar, former state presidents Dr Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Jagdambika
Pal, along with Pradeep Mathur, Noor Banu, Ansuiya Sharma, Meera Singh, Kamla Sahani, Naseeb Pathan, Meera Singh, Pramod Tewari, Prahlad Dwivedi, Ankit Parihar, Kaniska Pandey and president of NSUI (central zone) are members in the Committee.
A meeting of the newly constituted election committee would be held on January 22, here at UPCC head quarter, Khatri said. He claimed that on January 23, meeting of all Parliament incharges of NSUI, Youth Congress and other important leaders will be also held at UPCC for development of leadership skill.
According to Khatri, he and state incharge Madhusudan Mistri will also attend all the meetings. Meanwhile State Congress demanded a high level probe into large scale irregularities made in purchase of blankets. ``On one hand state government failed to distribute the blankets to poor and downtrodden section of the society when cold is at peak resulting into many deaths and even now when the government made the move, allegations of large scale irregularities are pouring in", alleged spokesman of the UPCC, Amarnath
Agarwal, while demanding a high level enquiry into the matter. Agarwal alleged that instead of making purchase of blankets from reputed firms to maintain quality as well as price check, government instead went to make orders to firms reportedly not involved in manufacturing blankets. ``It is almost evident that the firms which are not making blankets would definitely purchased it through some other source and supply it at higher prices to earn commission", pointed Agarwal while alleging large scale irregularities and demanding a probe into the entire matter.
