The Khat Sabha of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi evoked good response among the farmers of this backward east UP district but it turned out to be a spectacle of chaos as it drew to a close with locals virtually looting the khats (wooden charpai or cot) and dashing off to their homes.
Around 10, 000 people assembled for the first Khat Sabha meet at Satashi Inter College ground of Deotia on Tuesday. But soon after the Congress leader’s address came to an end, there was a mad rush among the people who busied themselves in taking away the khat in whatever way they could. There weas not stopping the frenzied crowd and within five minutes the entire area was bereft of the 600 cots which had been put in place for Rahul’s meet.
