Hitting out at the Samajwadi Party Government State unit of Bharatiya Janata Party said that Government’s decision to implement Food Security Act was a betrayal with the people as it would be implemented in just 24 districts in first phase.
“The Government decision to implement the Food Security Act in a phased manner is against the tenet of socialism. This scheme will be implemented in just 24 districts in first phase depriving crore of poor from the benefit of cheap foodgrain,” Suresh Kumar Khanna, leader BJP legislature Party in state assembly said in a statement issued here on Thursday.
He said that the government should come clear as why it will not implement the scheme in one-go in the state. “Secondly, it is not clear the districts which will be included in the first phase. This shows the government has not done its home work so far,’ Khanna said.
Akhilesh Government had declared implementation of Food Security Act early this week in a phased manner. In the first phase 24 districts will be included followed by 26 in second phase and 25 in last phase. Government claims that 15.21 crore poor would be benefited from this scheme.
Under this scheme poor and Antodaya card holders will get wheat at Rs 2 per kg, rice at Rs 3 per kg and other food grains at Rs 1 per kg. The antofdaya card holder will get 35 kg of grain per month.
Khanna said that 18 states in the country have so far implemented this Bill. “The Samajwadi Party Government claims itself to be government for poor. If actually it works for the welfare of poor it should have implemented the scheme because poor would stand benefited from this Bill,” he said.
