The Muslim face of Samajwadi Party and senior minister Md. Azam Khan has taken the Dadri incident to the UN saying that sustained efforts were being made to convert India into a Hindu state.
In his letter to the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, the senior SP minister has asked the UN to look into the grave miseries of the Muslims community in India. Khan has also sought time from the UN Secretary General to explain the position of Muslims in the country.
“The RSS and its fringe organisations established in 1925 have openly declared that their goal is to convert India into a majority theocratic nation. As this organisation is completing its 100th year of existence in 2025, its aggression has multiplied as it wants to make India minority-free by around 2022-23,” he alleged.
In his four-page letter to the UN Secretary General, which was released to media in lucknow on Monday, Khan has urged the highest international body ‘’to look into the miseries of the minorities in India and impress upon the Indian government to stick to international agreement and allow secularism and plurality to flourish in the country and not to push the agenda of extra-constitutional authorities within the country and tranform India into a Hindu Nation’. In his missive, Khan has also mentioned how recently, ‘an elderly Muslim was lynched on the rumour of consuming beef at a village near the National Capital which was the fallout of the sinister campaign by the Saffron outfits
“After conspiring to demolish the Babri mosque, now the communal forces have targeted Dadri to actualise their evil design to corner the Muslims and achieve their goal of creating a Hindu nation,” he said.
The minister also referred to video clippings showing Sikhs demonstrating outside the UN recently alleging that the Modi government was planning to convert India into a Hindu state by 2020.
later addressing reporters, Khan said that the Dadri issue was a larger conspiracy of the RSS-BJP to polarise voters for the Bihar Assesmbly polls and the coming UP polls in 2017.
“The double face of the BJP government at the Centre has been exposed, as on one hand External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj preaches secularism in UN General Assembly, while in Dadri, BJP’s activists are lynching a poor Muslim on the rumor of consuming beef,” Khan charged.
Khan demanded that all the slaughter houses owned by the Hindu community should be closed down. He also demanded a round-table conference between PM Natrendra Modi, political leaders and the UP government over the Dadri issue so that such incidents could be prevented in future.
The minister defended himself and state CM Akhilesh Yadav for not visiting Dadri. “Had we gone there, the situation would have worsened. So we called the family members instead and announced the compensation,” he said.
Denying his role in Muzaffarnagar riots or in Dadri, Khan said the communal forces always make him the scapegoat merely to trigger communal tension.
Assuring that the UP government will ensure justice to the victims, Khan refused to comment as to why the political leaders were being allowed to visit Bisada village in Dadri even after Section 144 (CrPC) was clamped there.
The minister also refused to comment on the statement of BJP MlA Sangeet Singh Som who pledged to hold a panchayat in support of the accused, some of whom Som understands were innnocent.
Fifty-year-old Mohammad Akhlaq was fatally battered by a lynch mob on October 1 when someone spread a rumour that the family had consumed beef. Akhlaq’s son Danish was critically injured in the attack. Eight of the 10 accused, including son of a senior BJP leader, were arrested in the aftermath.
