UP minister Mohammad Azam Khan has said that the incident of communal violence in Jehanabad town of Fatehpur was yet another instance of ‘intolerance’ spread by the fascist and communal forces in the state. “With the UP Assembly polls not far away, the communal forces are working on their sinister agenda of dividing the people on religious lines and spread intolerance.
People should avoid display of strength of the community on festivals,’’said Khan. Speaking to media persons in Rampur on Saturday, Khan said that religion does not permit anyone to indulge in violence or attack people of another community. The state government will not tolerate such incidents and action has been taken against the culprits.
Jehanabad was rocked by communal violence on January 14, while VHP activists were taking out a procession on Makar Sankranti when members of a community objected to the route. This led to a skirmish and police had to intervene to restore order. VHP president Praveen Bhai Togadia was to address a congregation which was later cancelled.
