Samajwadi Party leader and minority affairs minister Azam Khan has accused the BJP of engineering the trouble in the JNU and later framing the student leaders in sedition charges.

"BJP is planning for the permanent closure of the JNU. They have done this with the Aligarh muslim university and Jamia Milia University and now JNU is their latest target’’, alleged Azam Khan.

"JNU has a long history of secular credentials. The students of that university can never indulge in anti national act.  It’s a handiwork of the BJP which infiltrated its agent in the crowed of students and created this situation’’, alleged Azam Khan in a statement in Rampur. He said `` the designs of the BJP in JNU cannot be allowed to succeed   and student leaders of JNU have been framed in false charges’’.

Accusing the BJP of trying to destroy an institution of excellence, Azam Khan said `` BJP wants to change the basic character and profile of the JNU and wants it to bring the university under the fold of saffron ideology’’.

Azam Khan said `` had the  BJP not suffered poll debacle in Delhi and Bihar assembly elections they would done the same with the entire nation what they are doing right now with the JNU’’.

Students of the JNU affiliated with the left students organizations like AISF, SFI and AISA had organized a programme in the campus on February 9 to commemorate the death anniversary of terrorist Afzal Guru on Tuesday last. Afzal was an accused is terror strike on the parliament building in 2003 and he was sentenced to death and the capital punishment was upheld by the Supreme Court.  Delhi police had registered a case under sedition against President of JNU students union Kanhiya Kumar and 8 other.  Kanhiya Kumar has been arrested and more arrests are likely.

Students had raised anti national slogans demanding freedom to Kashmir from Indian occupation during the programme. The evidence of the anti national activity are also available on tape. Fisticuffs occurred when students of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) opposed it.
