In an apparent attempt to cover up the controversy generated following a remark of senior bureaucrat that no one dies of cold, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said that officials should show restrain in use of words or expression which can hurt anyone’s feelings.

"The bureaucracy and politicians should show control over language and use of words in expressing the situation otherwise the situation might go out of hand any time," Yadav told reporters here on Friday.

He was reacting to the statement on Principal Secretary (Home) A.K. Gupta when he said that no child had died in relief camp of cold. He even suggested that no one can die of cold had it been the case no one had survived by now in Siberia.

The remark was termed insensitive by politicians of all hues and they demanded action against the official.

"Sometimes in flow of narration we use words we do not intend to use. These few words are shown by television 24x7 giving a bad picture to the government. Therefore, I suggest that officers should show restrain in use of words while talking to media," Yadav said.

When asked whether he will take action against the officer, the CM said: "Ab chodo bhi".

Gupta is considered to be close to Chief Minister. When Yadav was sworn in Gupta was made Industrial Development Commissioner but was transferred to Revenue Board following a complaint. later he was brought back in the main stream and given the charge of Principal Secretary (Home).

Yadav said his Government wants to solve the Muzaffarnagar issue at the earliest. "We want the victims should go back to their homes and therefore my government is taking all the required steps," he said.

When asked about Ram Gopal Yadav’s statement about deterioration in law and order Chief Minister said that effective steps are being taken to bring crime situation under control.

Prof Yadav, who is national general secretary of the party, had asked Chief Minister to improve law and order otherwise it would be very difficult for the party to win next lok Sabha election. Party’s national president Mulayam Singh Yadav too had asked party leaders to stop goonda- gardi.
