Kalyan to return to BJP fold today

Former Chief Minister of UP, Kalyan Singh, will formally rejoin the Bharatiya Janata Party during the Vijay Shankhnaad rally of party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in lucknow on Sunday.

Kalyan Singh, who made this announcement at a press conference, also claimed to have resigned the Etah parliamentary seat from where he was elected as an independent candidate. "I have resigned from the 15th lok Sabha on February 25 and am excited to return to the BJP," he said.

The former Chief Minister, who was a frontal leader of the BJP during the Ayodhya movement in 1990s, had shared the dais with BJP president Rajnath Singh at a rally in lucknow on January 21 last but he did not join the party for technical reasons. His Jan Kranti Party had merged with the BJP on that day.

Expressing full faith in the leadership qualities of Narendra Modi, Kalyan Singh said that the BJP had already upset the plans of the Congress to make the lok Sabha poll campaign secular versus communal.

"The people have understood the anti-people stance of the Congress and the BJP has already emerged as the next alternative to it at the Centre," Singh said. "A Modi wave is sweeping across the country and as the elections come close, it will turn into a storm," he added.Undermining the efforts of some parties to forge a Third Front, Kalyan Singh said these parties had no credibility as they came together only at the time of election.

In reply to a question whether Ram temple or Modi was on his agenda for joining the BJP, he said that the temple was always on the agenda of every Hindu of the country. When asked whether he had sought tickets for some other leaders of Jan Kranti Party which has merged with the BJP, the former Chief Minister said he had just asked a ticket from Etah for himself.

It may be mentioned that during the last election, Kalyan Singh was so upset with the BJP that he had tied up with one time arch rivals, the Samajwadi Party, and had praised Mulayam Singh Yadav. However, he soon realised his mistake and distanced from the SP. Finally, he has announced return to his 'home'.
