Judicial probe into the Mathura incident an 'eye wash' : Maurya

Published on:

Terming the SP government’s decision to order a judicial probe into the Mathura incident as an 'eye wash' state BJP chief Keshav Prasad Maurya said that it opted for this as it wanted to protect the real culprits.

Maurya alleged that under the garb of probe by a retired High Court Judge, the SP regime had protected the perpetrators behind the Muzaffarnagar riots too.

“The UP government wants to replicate the same formula in Mathura and is hence unacceptable to the BJP. If the government is serious about getting to the bottom of Mathura incident, it should go for a CBI probe or one by a sitting Judge of High Court," Maurya said in a statement issued in lucknow on Wednesday.

The CM had ordered a judicial probe into the Mathura fracas in which cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from Jawahar Bagh. Twenty nine people, including two police officers, were killed in a gun battle.

The probe would be carried out by Retired High Court Judge, Imtiyaz Murtza and the government has now rescinded its earlier decision of a probe by Commissioner, Aligarh division.
