JNV death: SIT to go for DNA test of suspects

Published on:

The Special Investigation Team formed to probe the mysterious death of a student of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Mainpuri would conduct the DNA test of the suspects and match them with the victim’s swab collected during her autopsy.
Sources said that the Forensic Science Laboratory in Agra confirmed that the victim was raped after finding sperm in the swab test. The slides were then returned to Mainpuri police on November 15, to be forwarded to the FSL in Lucknow as facility of DNA matching is not available in Agra.
However, the Mainpuri police, ostensibly to save some bigwigs involved in the killing, did not take cognisance of the finding and tried to close the investigation, terming it to be a case of suicide.
Sources said that the SIT, which reached Mainpuri and recreated the scene, has decided to conduct DNA matching of the sample with that of the suspects in the case. Besides, they would also carry out polygraph tests of three students and two teachers.
The SIT team claimed that they would scan the details of all evidences, including statements of other hostel inmates, and hoped that an early breakthrough would be made to extract the truth behind the mysterious killing.
After the negligence of Mainpuri police brass came to the fore, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath got into action mode and shunted out the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police of Mainpuri. He also set up a SIT to probe the matter threadbare and dispatched a reminder to the Centre for a CBI probe into the killing.
On September 16, a student of Class XI of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Mainpuri was found dead in the hostel and a note was found nearby claiming that she was being harassed by fellow hostel mates. The victim’s father lodged a complaint against the principal, hostel warden and a boy, after which a case of murder and rape under POCSO Act was registered.
