Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) has come forward to help riot victims as it has decided to take relief and rehabilitation responsibility of nearly 1000 such families in Muzaffarnagar area.
Taking social responsibility, JIH did survey of the relief camps in three villages including loi, Budhana and Basi Kalan where relief camps were setup for shelter and safety. "There were some 4000 people in loi, 1500 in Budhana and 3500 in Basi Kalan relief camps. There was poor sanitation, unavailability of clean drinking water, etc. We have identified some 1000 families which will be covered under first phase of relief and rehabilitation campaign," local In-charge JIH in Muzaffarnagar, Allauddin Ahmad told The Pioneer.
In this first phase, JIH’s committee for rehabilitation and relief will provide tents which would be erected for the adopted families with all basic needs on temporary basis including blankets, big size mats, proper sanitation facilities, hand pumps, street light poles and temporary schools.
Secretary General, JIH, Nusrat Ali said for safe rehabilitation of victims to their original residence. First we will focus on establishing peace with communal harmony in the villages by bringing Muslims and Jats together again. "When they will back shift to their houses, they would need basic things including Utensils, Gas Cylinders and things needed in winters. Our committee will ensure that identified families get all needed items," he added.
JIH would also provide legal aid to the victims of riots for which legal wing of the organisation had been working out. "The legal wing had been engaged in registering FIRs where it had not been done so far. We will also pressurise state government to give compensation to all the victims," said In-charge of relief works, Mohammad Shafi Madani who also heads Islamic Relief Committee of Gujarat (IRCG).
