The Janata Dal (United) will intensify its campaign for breaking new political ground in Uttar Pradesh. After public meeting in Mirzapur on June 18, JD (U) chief and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar will address public meetings in Gorakhpur, Faizabad, Kanpur and Bundelkhand in coming months.
The JD (U) has also decided to launch a membership campaign in UP from June 5 settinga target of enrolling 30 lakh members.
State JD (U) chief Suresh Niranjan said on Friday that the party will intensify its campaign for a total ban on alcohol in UP, fight against land mafia and illegal mining across the state.
He said the chief minister Akhilesh Yadav is fond of flaunting his agenda of development and construction of 4 lane highways and expressways. The same highways are being damaged by overloading of trucks carrying 'illegally mined' sand particularly in Bundelkhand region.
Niranjan said that despite repeated orders of the High Court, illegal mining is rampant in different parts of the state. .
Targeting the SP government for its failure to address the problems of farmers reeling under the impact of drought, the JD (U) leader said, "CM Akhilesh Yadav keeps blaming the Centre for inadequate financial assistance. The state government itself has done nothing for the unfortunate farmers.’’
