Jaya Prada files nomination

Cine star-turned-politician Jaya Prada filed her nomination papers from Rampur Lok Sabha constituency as a BJP candidate on Wednesday, which happened to be her 57th birthday.

Jaya Prada had won the Rampur Lok Sabha seat in 2004 and 2009 as Samajwadi Party candidate.

“I am happy to file my nomination from Rampur where I wanted to work. I cannot be more happy than by filing my nomination on my birthday... it is a big gift to me,” the former parliamentarian told media after filing her papers.

Jaya Prada, who joined the BJP on March 26, is pitted against senior SP leader Mohammad Azam Khan, who filed his nomination papers on Tuesday. Rampur goes to polls in the third phase on April 23.

Rajya Sabha member Amar Singh, who is Jaya Prada’s political mentor, was not present when she filed her nomination papers. However, his video message wishing success for Jaya Prada was played after she filed the papers. Amar Singh is sick and admitted in a hospital in Gurugram.
