Vice President, M Venkaiah Naidu said on Saturday that it was not possible to ensure quality of life without electricity. He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the new building of UP Electricity Regulatory Commission in Gomtinagar (lucknow) on Saturday. Governor Ram Naik, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were also present on the occasion.
The Vice-president complemented Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for constructing an energy efficient building and termed it as a model for other governments. “Our economy and lifestyle are dependent on electricity,” he reminded.
Naidu said that the people must make efficient and effective use of electricity as it was not renewable. He also exhorted the masses to explore possibility of new and renewable energy sources.
“If electricity is to be given to every household, then it will have to be made so cheap that the consumer will not be burdened,” he opined.
The Vice-president called for a relook into the way electricity was been viewed and said that it was time that one also considered regulating demand for electricity apart from focussing on supply like production and distribution.
Naidu said that the source of energy-resources were limited and we should bring basic improvements in our lifestyle and make the environment energy efficient.
“Commission can play an important role in determining the criteria for efficiency in the power sector and Demand Side Management (DSM),” he added.
The VP said that it was heartening to note that many innovative measures have been adopted for this energy efficient building where instead of normal bricks, `autoclaved aerated concrete blocks’ were used. “XPS system and double glazed unit glass unit have been used as heat resistant, lED for lighting and `variable refrigerant volume system has been used for air-conditioning. A 70 KW solar plant has also been installed at the roof of the building for the power supply,” he said.
The Vice-president said that the energy efficient building should serve as a role model for the government agencies and the construction industry.
lauding efforts of the state government in employing latest energy efficient technology for building, the Governor said that all government agencies should ensure that building projects were completed within scheduled time so as to prevent cost and time overrun.
In his address, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath targeted the previous Samajwadi Party regime saying that construction of the building started during SP regime in 2012 and was scheduled to be completed in next two years.
Yogi said that during the SP regime, select few districts were given round the clock power supply but the BJP government ended the bias and ensured that all districts got regular power supply.
later in the evening, the Vice-president released a book on the history of lucknow written by former minister and lucknow MP, lalji Tandon.
