Intelligence agencies trying to avert ISI bid to influence riot victims

Published on:

Though the inputs of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) revealed by Vice-president of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Rahul Gandhi during a public meeting draws criticism from political parties but sources said that the sleuths of the Anti-Terrorists Squad (ATS) as well as Central and State intelligence agencies are  already working to avert the attempt of the Pakistani espionage agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) which is reportedly making efforts to use the sentiments of youths of  a particular community in riots hit areas of Western UP to motivate them to take up terror activities in the Country.

There are several inputs that ISI activists through their sleeping modules are active in Western UP and are trying to capitalise on sentiments of youths of a particular communities whose kin were killed during recent riots in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli", disclosed a senior IPS officer posted in Western UP. He claimed that the reports suggested that the ISI would recruit some youths for

‘jehad’ and motivate them that it is the only way through which they could avenge the killings of their kin in the riots. The officers said that with similar inputs both from State intelligence agencies as well as from Intelligence Bureau, so the sleuths of the ATS were already put on job by the state government to thwart any such activities. On condition of anonymity, the officer further disclosed that the members of that particular community finds UP as the safest place for their community particularly with recent governments giving special attention towards the members of their community, hence no terror activities has been reported any where in the state for last several years.  Not only this,  present government even announced to withdraw terror cases pending against members of their community.

He claimed that in wake of the above atmosphere the ISI as well Pakistan based militant groups are finding it very hard to make new recruitment mainly after Central Government banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), the organization said to be promoting ISI activities in the State and the other group ‘Indian Mujhadin’ (IM), in which almost all major recruitments were done from Azamgarh,  has been almost dismantled after Batala House encounter. With almost all the securities agencies are on trail for absconding IM militants, it prove very hard for the Pakistani militant groups or ISI activists to find ‘ hands’ to execute their plan in the UP. The officer further said that now in change of scenario after worst ever riots in Western UP, as well as media reports that Bharatiya Janta Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, alleged to be responsible for massacre of a particular community in Gurjat, might come to power, there are intelligence reports that ISI and other militant groups would use both as a potential tool and would try to identify the youths  of a particularly community  to motivate them to carry out subversive activities in case interest of members of their community were hit by future political developments.
