In a heart-wrenching incident reported from Baghpat district, a three-month-old infant lost his life when he was taken away by a monkey and thrown into the water tank.

After searching the child for a long time, the relatives found the infant unconscious in the water tank. The family members rushed the child to hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead.

Reports said that 3-month-old Prince, son of Keshav, a resident of Gadhi Kalanjari in Baghpat, was sleeping on a cot in the room on Saturday night. Around 12 o'clock, a monkey entered the room and took the infant away. The other family members sleeping in the same room failed to notice this.

After some time when the family members did not see the boy in the cot, they started looking for him. After searching for several hours, when the family reached the roof of the house, they found the child lying in the water tank.

The family members rushed the child to hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead. The family members also took the boy to a hospital in Delhi but the doctors there also pronounced him dead.

After learning about the incident, the agitated local residents gathered outside the victim’s house and claimed that they had lodged several complaints with the local administration to check the monkey menace but the officials took no cognisance as a result of which an innocent life was lost.

Meanwhile, a 35-year-old woman attempted self-immolation at the gate of Raya police station of Mathura on Saturday after being allegedly pressurised by the accused against whom she had lodged a report of molestation in 2017 to withdraw her report.

The woman with 90 per cent burns was shifted to Agra in a serious condition, Senior Superintendent of Police of Mathura, Gaurav Grover, said.

“The woman came to Raya police station in Mathura on Saturday afternoon along with her husband to lodge a report against some people of her village who had lodged a complaint against her husband on Friday. Later she set herself afire,” Grover said.

The SSP further said the woman was immediately rushed to the district hospital in Mathura from where she was shifted to SN Medical College in Agra. “A probe by SP (Rural) Sirish Chand has been ordered,” he said.

Husband of the woman alleged that those accused of molestation were pressuring them to withdraw their report by lodging fake cases against him.

The woman had lodged a report of molestation under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code against Harish Chandra at Raya police station in Mathura in 2017 but no action was taken, family members said.
