Inaction of the Sitapur police to take action against an eve-teaser forced a class 9 minor student to end her life instead falling prey to the lust of the accused.
Reports said that Rakhi (15) hailing from a village in Imliya Sultanpur locality was returning on her Scooty from her college last Wednesday when she was intercepted by a youth on Kazi Kamalpur-Kusuma turning. The youth, identified as Kallu, snatched her school bag, molested her and threatened her with dire consequences if she did not satisfy his lust. The girl somehow left the spot and reached home and revealed the entire incident to her family members who lodged a report with the local police.
The cops, however, took no action and this emboldened the youth and he again intercepted the girl on Friday and sexually assaulted her and also dared her to lodge a report against him. The upset girl once again told her family members about the incident and they in turn informed the police but the insensitive cops refused to take immediate action.
Depressed with the events, especially after getting no help from police, the girl decided to end her life fearing that the accused would rape her the next time. She hanged herself to save her modesty late Friday night.
Reports said that only after learning that the girl had committed suicide, the cops, to save their own skin, arrested the accused on Saturday morning.
In another sensational killing, the body of a 17-year-old girl was found lying in a secluded place on Saturday morning. The body was seen lying at Dhaurahra hamlet of Kotwali police station and the victim was identified as Pratima, a resident of the same locality.
Her father, Haribansh, claimed that his daughter went to attend the call of nature on Saturday morning and suspected that someone killed her. He also suspected that the victim could have been killed after she resisted an attempt of sexual assault on her.
The police sent the body for post-mortem and were waiting for its report before going ahead with the investigation.
Meanwhile, a man was brutally killed over a land dispute in Sitapur on Saturday morning. Reports said that 40-year-old Bhusaila was having some property related dispute with a local villager. On Saturday morning, the opposite party came with their henchmen and tried to grab the disputed land which was opposed by Bhusaila. During the scuffle, the accused hacked Bhusaila to death with a spade and escaped before the villagers reached the scene of crime.
The local police registered a case in this regard and conducted raids to nab the assailants but they all were found absconding.
The body was sent for post-mortem. Further investigations are on.
