Imran Masood joins BSP, made convener of western UP

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Wednesday welcomed Imran Masood, who left the Samajwadi Party, into the party fold and entrusted him with a big responsibility by appointing him as the convener of the party in western UP.

Masood, who once threatened to cut Prime Minister Narendra Modi into pieces, had earlier left the Congress and joined the SP during the assembly elections.

Akhilesh Yadav, however, did not give him ticket after which Masood was upset and was looking for some opportunity which he finally found in the BSP.

After joining the BSP, Imran said that he had come to strengthen Behenji's movement.

“Whenever the BSP movement has weakened, the Bharatiya Janata Party has become strong. On the contrary, when the SP has become strong, the BJP has become stronger,” he said.

Confirming Masood’s joining the BSP on Wednesday, Mayawati wrote in a tweet that Imran Masood is a well-known name in the politics of Uttar Pradesh and especially in western UP.

Masood met Mayawati along with his close associates who all left the SP and joined the BSP, “with good intentions and a promise to work with full force”.

Mayawati appointed Masood as the convener of BSP of western UP.

In another tweet, Mayawati said that (Masood’s tremendous zeal and enthusiasm to work in the party, today by making him the convener of western UP BSP, a special responsibility was entrusted to him to strengthen the party at every level and especially to connect the elite community with the party.

Mayawati said that after the Azamgarh Lok Sabha by-election and now before the local bodies elections, Masood and others joining in the BSP was a good sign for the politics of UP in the sense that the Muslim society was convinced that not the SP but only the BSP was necessary to get rid of the “hateful and cruel” politics of the BJP.
