Improper use of science may put you in danger: Rajnath

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that science and technology if not rightly used, can become a danger to the society. It’s for the students to understand that they need to learn that technology should be used for development and betterment of the society. Singh was speaking at the 13th convocation of Dr APJ Kalam Technical University at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan on Saturday.

To back his stand, the Home minister drew a contrast between youths working in IT major Infosys and terror outfit Al-Qaeda. He said that while one group was working in the interest of the society, the other was misusing knowledge for destruction. The Union Minister said, “Talent can not be used in a proper manner for the betterment of society but the thinking has to be right and should be backed by commitment for human values.”

Singh reminded the students, “Ravana was super power, he had knowledge, prosperity and power. But since he lacked a strong character, hence he is not worshipped despite having so many remarkable qualities.”

Quoting another example he said that once Swami Vivekanada went abroad, when the foreigners made fun of his attire, the great saint replied, “In your county tailor makes man, in mine character makes man.” He said that there was a time when major companies were confined only to developed countries like USA, UK, France etc. “A country known for knowledge and ideas, a country which makes people comfortable with Economic, Military and Intellectual power. The brain behind Quadratic equation to Pythagoras theorem was Indian,” he asserted.

“Today we are proud that we are not behind anyone. This is not all, even the heads of Google and Microsoft are of Indian origin. We do not want to drive fear in the hearts of people by becoming a ‘super power’, we want to become a ‘global guru’. We do not want to dominate, India was a global guru and would become one soon again,” he asserted. The Home minister hailed Dr. Kalam crediting him for attracting students towards science and technology and congratulated the passing-out students and wished them a bright future.
