Immolation bid by woman foiled

Alleging gangrape and no subsequent police action, a woman tried self-immolation on the campus of SSP's office in Meerut. However, after foiling her attempt, the police arrested the woman claiming that the charges levelled by her were aimed at blackmailing the accused.

As per reports, a woman from Meerut named three persons, including a property dealer, charging them with gangraping her in a case lodged with Nauchandi police station.

She alleged that the accused took her to Bhawanpur area for showing her a plot and later gave her some intoxicant mixed in cold drink before taking turns with her. The cops registered a case but claimed that the charges were fake and took no action.

Upset with the police apathy, the woman on Monday doused herself with kerosene and reached the SSP’s office. There she tried to torch herself. However, the cops noticed her move in time and foiled her attempt. Later, they arrested her and lodged her in Mahila police station.
