Social acitivist and wife of IG (civil defense) Amitabh Thakur, had objected  expenditure to put a photograph of director general of police, Arvind Kumar Jain, as all the police offices of the State. He termed it as a total wastage of money particularly, as Jain had less than one and half month left for his retirement. He would retire on March 31 this year.

In a communiqué released on Tuesday evening, Dr Nutan Thakur said to have requested DGP A K Jain, to take back his order of placing his photographs in all police offices. She claimed that Assistant to DGP, B P Jogdand has written to all district and Government Railway Police (GRP) SPs, Commandants of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and other senior police officers on 14 February to get DGP A K Jain’s (8 x10 inch) latest colour photo on (14 x 18 inch) mount from Naini studio for Rs. 275 each.  Calling this huge public expense on buying and bringing DGP photographs for merely 1.5 months avoidable, Dr Thakur has requested the DGP to reconsider this direction.

Meanwhile, Amitabh Thakur also claimed to be sitting on Gandhi statue, Hazratganj on 20 February in connection with long stir of the lawyers of the State. Thakur said that while he is personally affected by these frequent strikes, he also feels the huge problem and effect on these strikes on common litigants. He has said that the advocates definitely have their own problems but their going on strikes leaves lakhs of poor and helpless litigants fully dependent on these advocates in complete lurch. Hence on 20 February, he claimed to be sitting at Gandhi statue to convey the feelings of these lakhs of helpless litigants to the advocates, who are acting as the custodian of these people’s interests.
