Iftar parties lined up to woo Muslim votes

With an eye on the coming Assembly polls, 'Iftar' diplomacy has become the chore for political parties to woo Muslims and several such parties are lined in the next week.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who is also the state chief of SP, will be holding a mega Iftar and dinner at his official residence on June 25. The Iftar would be joined by party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav along with other senior leaders like Amar Singh, Mohammad Azad Khan and some of the Congress leaders.

Congress, which was scheduled to organise Iftar on June 22, has postponed it for a next date. A senior leader said that now the Iftar party would be held on June 26 or 27, in which party's new face Gulam Nabi Azad would be present.

The BSP had organised a big Iftar function in the lucknow on Saturday which was attended by senior leaders including Satish Chandra Mishra, Swami Prasad Maurya and was organised by Nasimuddin Siddiqui.

Though BJP is not directly holding any Iftar but its Minority Cell could organise a small function in this regard.

Meanwhile, the smaller parties too are not far behind in organising Iftars, particularly, those who are making all out efforts to get Muslim votes in the coming polls.

AIMIM, led by Hyderabad MP Asauddin Owaisi, would be holding two Iftars, one at Moradabad on Monday and next at Bijnore on June 21 and will be present at both.

Similarly, Peace Party led by Dr Ayub, would be holding a series of  Iftar parties in lucknow, Sant Kabir Nagar, Doomariaganj and other places in eastern UP from June 21. These Iftars would also be joined by leaders from Mahan Dal and Rashtriya Ekta Parishad. Meanwhile, Indian Muslim league (IMl) led by Dr Matin too would be holding Iftar afterJune 22.
