I appeal to governor not to get involve in politics: Azam Khan

Senior minister in Akhilesh Yadav Government, Mohammad Azam Khan, continues to point barbs at Governor when he suggested Ram Naik should stay away from politics and should not issue statements which do not concern him “I appeal to Governor Ram Naik ji not to get involved in politics. He should avoid creating controversies,” Azam Khan said in a letter sent to Raj Bhawan.

The comment of the minister came after the Governor raised objection on handing over a government property in Rampur to Johar Ali Trust merely on Rs 100. This building is being used for running a private school by the Trust on the name of Rampur Public School.

The minister, however, justified his act to start the public school on the government property. “This is done with an intention to improve educational standard in the region. It is known fact that education standard of private schools is better than state-run schools,” he said.

Khan also clarified his stand on different issues raised by Governor from time to time against the Samajwadi Party government. Governor, of late, has been critical of the Government on law and order situation and had claimed that situation should improve further.

The UP Minister, who shot off a four page letter to the Raj Bhawan, indirectly attacked the Governor for interfering in the political matters of the state particularly raising the law and order situation through public platform.

“I have read your statements against me and I am sad that such a seasoned politician like you have a wrong impression about me. I am serving the poor and oppressed section of the society and do not deserve to look differently,’ he said.

In his letter the Minister narrated in detail about the atrocities of Rampur Nawab on the local people and how he is changing the situation instilling confidence and pride among the poor.

He also justified his opposition to Governor’s statement on Ram temple at Ayodhya. “How can a person like me support the demolition of the Mosque on December 6, 1992 when the act was totally against the Constitutional norms,’ he said. He said that Governor is a constitutional post and a person holding this must behave in a dignified manner as per the decorum.  It is not the first time Azam Khan has come out against Governor. In previous occasions too he had criticized Governor.

On his part Ram Naik had said that statements of Azam Khan had pained him. “I had brought the issue to the knowledge of Mulayam Singh Yadav ji. He is leader of the party and should take action against him,” he said.
