Husband among 2 held in Jyoti murder case

The police on Wednesday claimed to have solved the sensational Jyoti murder case with the arrest of two persons, including the victim’s The second accused, Awadhesh, is the driver of Piyush’s paramour. He, with the help of an accomplice Sonu, had killed Jyoti in the presence of her husband in their Honda Accord car on Rawatpur-HBTI road in Swarup Nagar police area late on Sunday night.

According to police, Piyush got Jyoti eliminated as he wanted to marry his paramour.Addressing mediapersons on Wednesday afternoon, zonal IG Ashutosh Pandey said after scanning the CCTV footage of a restaurant on Parbati Bagla Road where Piyush had gone on Sunday evening with his wife and going through the call details of his cellphone, it became evident that he was behind the murder and the police had arrested Piyush of Pandu Nagar and Manisha’s driver Awadhesh, a native of Auraiya. The police have also taken his paramour into custody for interrogation. Raids are on to arrest Sonu.

The IG said that after his arrest, Piyush initially kept denying his involvement in the murder of his wife but when he was shown the video footage and the call details he confessed his involvement in the crime. The CCTV footage shows Piyush going out of the restaurant twice and talking to someone for about 20 minutes across the Parbati Bagla Road.

Giving the sequence of the events, IG said between 6 and 9:55 pm,Piyush talked to Awadhesh at over half-a-dozen times. At 9:56 pm, he talked to his paramour about their marriage. Thereafter, Piyush went to her paramour’s place and asked her to destroy the SIMs of the BlackBerry mobile phones both of them had.The IG said that she was physically and emotionally attached to Piyush but for certain reasons — social and religious — they could not marry. Besides, Piyush also had an affair with one of his employees at the factory, who was a chemist, and continued to blackmail her emotionally.

Piyush had sent her 150 SMS and also received their replies. Both had fixed their meeting on July 28. But his employee had no role in the murder of Jyoti, the IG added.He said that during the past two months, Piyush had made 1,200 calls to his paramour and she had contacted him 663 times by her cellphone. According to the IG, for the past three days, Piyush used to remain out of the house between 1 am and 4 am on the pretext of attending

urgent work in the factory. When he saw Jyoti complaining to her relatives and parents about his activities, he was irked. Fearing that he would be exposed during Jyoti’s visit to her parents’ house on Raksha Bandhan, Piyush decided to eliminate her before that.

As per Piyush’s statement recorded by the police, he had called Awadhesh to the Checkmate Restaurant where he had gone with Jyoti. After dinner, Piyush and Jyoti took the back seat while Awadhesh drove the car with Sonu on the front seat. He told Jyoti that they were going on a long drive towards Allahabad. On Rawatpur-HBTI Road, as per the plan, Awadhesh stabbed Jyoti to death in the presence of Piyush and Sonu. later, after leaving Piyush on the street, Awadhesh and Sonu drove the car along with the body towards Panki and abandoned it there. The IG said the knife used in the murder had not yet been recovered. However, there were blood stains in the car. Range DIG RK Chaturvedi, SSP KS Emmanuel and SP (East) Prabhakar Chaudhary were present at the press conference.
