A young lover was killed in the name of family honor in Badaun, sexual harassment forced a girl to set herself afire in Muzaffarnagar while in Shamli, a woman ended her life by jumping before a train.
In the suspected case of honor killing at Badaun, a 19 year-old-girl and her lover were strangled to death by the girl's parents in Nandyal village. Mausam Ali and his wife Harsimat Begum found their daughter in an objectionable position with her lover in her room on Friday night. Incensed by this, the parents assaulted the young couple and stranguled them. later, realising their blunder, the parents surrendered before the police and confessed to the crime. A case was registered and the bodies for sent for autopsy.
In Muzaffarnagar, a 14-year-old girl allegedly committed self-immolation at her house in lacheda village after being sexually harassed by two young neighbours identified as Mohan Kumar and Sonu Singh. The miscreants also handed out life threats to the traumatised victim if she resisted.
On Friday, the accused again molested the victim when she had gone to the fields. Hearing her cries, the villagers rushed there and nabbed the youths before handingthem over to the police. But the victim was so shocked by the incident that she set herself on fire and died on the spot. A case of abetting suicide and under sections of POCSO Act was registered and the body was sent for autopsy
In the last incident reported from Shamli, a 23-year-old woman
committed suicide by jumping before a train at Kandhla railway station on Delhi-Saharanpur route on Friday evening. The reason behind the victim’s move could not be ascertained. The body was sent for autopsy and efforts were being made to establish her identity.
