The Uttar Pradesh government has sounded a high alert in all districts in view of Independence Day celebrations on Wednesday followed by the festivals Bakrid, Raksha Bandhan, Shree Krishna Janmashtami etc.

Western UP is already in alert mode due to kanwar yatra.

Sources said that in an advisory issued on Monday, the state government asked all district magistrates and district police chiefs along with officers in ranges and zones and divisional commissioners to hold intensive vehicle checking drive in their districts and step up police patrol ahead of Independence Day and the coming festivals.

The advisory stresses on special policing at night and at crowded places in all districts and deployment of cops in plain clothes at railway and bus stations, malls and other public places.

“Special security arrangement be made at places where VVIP attend Independence Day functions and other related programmes,” the directive said.

It further said that checkings of hotels, dharmashalas and guest houses be carried out to trace out any suspected person. At airports in lucknow and Varanasi, visitors’ passes have been suspended while checking of passengers and their baggage is being done more strictly.
