Even as the total number of coronavirus cases topped the 1.14 lakh mark in Uttar Pradesh, the Health department is upbeat with the fact that test positivity and mortality rate (TPMR) is low as compared to other states.
“Uttar Pradesh has done well in containing coronavirus infection which is indicated by low mortality rate of 1.75 per cent. It is lower than the national average as the rate is higher in most states,” said Medical Education Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna on Saturday.
India’s COVID-19 fatality rate is 2.43 per cent and deaths per million stand at 20.4 — among the lowest in the world.
The current test positivity rate in UP stands at 3.9 per cent, while it is 19.6 per cent in Maharashtra.
In UP, 29 lakh people were tested out of which 1.13 lakh tested positive for the infection. In Maharashtra, around 25 lakh samples were tested, out of which 4.88 lakh were found positive.
The figure in neighbouring Bihar stands at 8.2 per cent as 8.70 lakh samples were tested out of which 71,794 were found positive.
Similarly, in Kerala, the rate is around 8.2 per cent and in Assam around 4.40 per cent.
In Andhra Pradesh, 23.62 lakh samples were tested out of which 2.06 lakh were positive, taking the positivity rate to 8.76 per cent.
Khanna said the number of tests had gone up to one lakh per day from 100 tests done in March and the number of beds in Covid hospitals had gone up to 1.51 lakh.
“The government has allowed home isolation which has been a big relief to asymptomatic patients. Of active coronavirus cases, 15,678 are in home isolation, 1,352 in private hospitals, 178 in semi-paid hotels and the rest in Covid hospitals. Also, setting up of command and control centre in every districts has rendered management of COVID-19 patients easy,” Khanna said.
Meanwhile, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi said that there were 46,177 active cases in the state and 69,833 people had recovered, including 2,999 on Saturday.
On Friday, the state again recorded over 1.02 lakh sample tests. With this, the total tests across the state went up to 29.96 lakh, just two lakh short of Tamil Nadu, which is the top state in terms of sample testing.
