HC asks Prakash for SIT probe in Insurance scam case

A well organised racket comprising of policemen, doctors, advocates, officials of claim settlement courts etc has been operating in the state resulting into huge financial loss to the insurance companies.

The above sensational fact has been revealed during enquiry by Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed on the directions of the lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court. The SIT team headed by Additional Director General (Special Inquiry Cell), Chandra Prakash, reportedly made a breakthrough in cracking the above syndicate and so far went ahead with registration of eight cases in which 42 accused which included doctors, advocates, policemen etc have been named. Prakash said that now further investigations are on and they were trying to gather some more facts before proceeding with the arrest of the accused.

Prakash revealed that how a well organised syndicate has been operating in Uttar Pradesh which took `contract’ to facilitate insurance claim to any victim when legally the person was not entitled for it as per the insurance company’s law. He said that in October last year, a leading insurance company went to High court seeking probe against one Ramwati of Rae Bareli, who filed insurance claim of Rs 35 lakh against death of her husband in an accident. The company claimed before HC that the incident cited by Ramwati which led to her husband’s death is fake. Besides Ramwati, the insurance company also cited about 45 more cases which are fake but still claims were made by the kin of the victims.

Prakash disclosed that HC formed a SIT to probe all the cases and made him as head of the team. He claimed that HC also directed to take more similar cases which surfaced during the course of investigation and to initiate legal proceedings in the matter. ADG (Special Inquiry) revealed that soon after taking up the challenge, he request all the other prominent insurance companies that if they too had any suspected cases of claims, then they could forward it to SIT for detailed investigation. He said that to expedite the probe in the matter, he also sought a team of 16 cops which included inspectors, sub-inspectors, head constables etc. He said that after his initiative, about 700 cases of insurance claims recommended for probe by almost all major insurance companies of the country.

According to Prakash, the probe so far revealed sensational facts that how the sequence of events leading to accidents have been changed, how witnesses were created, how doctors gave fake medical certificates to facilitate claims, how the advocates took contract on basis of percentage of the total claim money made on case to case basis, how the police shake hands with the gang to file favourable reports and lastly how the officials in court helped to recover the claim money. He said that very interesting fact also came up which pointed that in many cases, the lawyers gave their false registration number, mobile number and even their names so that no legal proceedings could not be made against them even if their criminal conspiracy might be exposed at any stage.
