Hamirpur peaceful

Published on:

Hamirpur remained peaceful with no fresh incident of violence being reported since Tuesday night.

On Tuesday evening, members of different communities had clashed over taking out a procession during Kans Vaddha Mela in Hamirpur.

The warring mobs pelted stones in which several persons, including an additional superintendent of police, were injured.

The police later used force and burst tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed Principal Secretary (Home) Arvind Kumar and DGP OP Singh to supervise the action being taken by the local administration and ensure peace.

Senior police officers, including ADG (Allahabad Zone) reached the spot on Tuesday night to monitor the developments. DIG Banda was also camping at Maudaha.

The administration imposed an "undeclared curfew" in the area to avert any further clash.

A DGP office spokesman said that para-military forces, local police and senior officers were camping in the area to ensure peace.

Several cases have been registered in connection with Tuesday's violence and more than a dozen persons have been detained for trying to disturb peace.
