Haji Mehboob opposes Central govt move

Petitioner in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute case, Haji Mehboob, opposed the Central government’s move to seek Supreme Court’s permission to return the 67-acre acquired land around the disputed site in Ayodhya to the original owners.

Threatening violence, Mehboob described the move as political. “We know that it is a big game. If this happens, the entire country will burn. The whole world knows about the current position of the Bharatiya Janata Party and hence the Narendra Modi government has taken this

step. Had the government taken this step two years back, people would have accepted it,” Mehboob said.

Another plaintiff of the Muslim side in the Ayodhya title suit, Iqbal Ansari, said he had no objection if the Supreme Court released the non-disputed land.

“The Centre can take the excess land, other than the area where the Babri mosque stood. We have no objection to the Centre’s petition,” he said on Tuesday.

Ansari, however, alleged that when the Centre should have focused on development and employment generation, it was more concerned about the Ram temple.

“When elections are around, such move of the Centre only shows a political motive behind it,” he added.

Meanwhile, UP government spokesman and Health Minister Sidharth Nath Singh blamed the Congress for the delay in the court verdict on Ayodhya dispute.

“Senior Congress leader and lawyer Kapil Sibal always tried to delay the case on the instruction of party chief Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi,” Singh said.
