After Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visted the Trauma Centre of KGMU in lucknow to enquire about the well being of a victim who was forced to gulp down acid on Thursday, Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel arrested two persons from Unchahar on Friday. Besides, four RPF personnel were suspended for negligence.
With the change in guard and the law enforcing agency under pressure to prove its efficacy, the GRP lucknow acting on a tip off, arrested Guddu Singh and Bhondu Singh from Unchahar (Rae Bareli). In 2009, these two were accused of raping the victim and an FIR was registered against them.
“We have arrested two suspects in the case. They were earlier accused of raping the victim in Unchahar in 2007. They were being brought to lucknow and further investigations are underway,” said DG Railways, Gopal Gupta.
Earlier on Thursday morning, the victim was attacked on board Allahabad- lucknow Ganga Gomti Express. She had boarded the train at Unchahar and was forced to drink acid by two persons between Mohanlalganj and lucknow stations.
After the train arrived at Charbagh around 11.10 am, GRP personnel attended her in a serious condition and rushed her to Trauma Centre of KGMU where she is convalecsing.
Despite an escort party of Railway Protection Force (RPF) being present on the train, they were not available for help. Taking the incident seriously, DG Railways Gopal Gupta wrote to his counterpart in the Railway Protection Force to suspend all four RPF personnel.
“On the recommendation of the DG Rialways, DG RPF has issued orders for the suspension of Head Constable RPF Bahadur lal and three constables - Manindar Yadav, Anil Kumar and Ashok Kumar for negligence on duty,” said an official.
Taking exceptions to the bizarre crime, DG Railways Gopal Gupta ordered his junior colleagues to beef up security for women travelling in trains and asked GRP escort parties to remain alert especially for women pasengers.
Besides, Gupta directed all senior officials to out surprise inspections of trains and ensure that the escort parties were doing their job properly.
