The Uttar Pradesh government has proposed action against officers of the Noida Development Authority, employees and builders, including the architect involved, as the collusion between the development authority and the real estate company has been proved in the construction of the twin towers in violation of law.
Infrastructure and Industrial Development Commissioner Arvind Kumar said that the UP government had set up a four-member special investigation team in September 2021 under the chairmanship of Commissioner of Infrastructure and Industrial Development to fix the responsibility of officials of Noida Authority and Supertech builders after the Supreme Court observed that there was collusion between the two in the illegal construction of the twin towers.
“Based on the report of the committee, action has been taken against 26 people, including the officers and employees involved in the case, directors of Supertech Limited and their architects. An FIR was registered by Noida Development Authority with the Vigilance Establishment in October, 2021 against the involved officer of the development authority, director of Supertech Limited and architect in the same case,” he said.
In addition, a case was also filed by the Noida Development Authority in the district court at Gautam Buddha Nagar for prosecution proceedings against the development authority personnel and Supertech Limited. While suspending the officers involved in the case, who were currently working in different authorities, disciplinary action had also been initiated against them by the government, he said.
What has happened so far?
Between 2004 and 2006, 54,820 square metres of land was allotted to M/s Supertech Construction Pvt Ltd by the Noida Development Authority in Plot No. GH 04, Sector 93A. Maps were approved by the development authority on this land at different times.
There were a total of 17 towers on the approved map, out of which a total of 660 residential units were approved. While 15 towers are of 15-15 storeys, two towers are of 30 and 32 storeys.
The Supreme Court, on August 31, 2021, issued orders to demolish the twin towers in three months, saying that out of 17 towers, two towers (16 and 17), known as twin towers, did not have the required minimum open area between the towers and consent was not taken from the previous allottees.
The entire amount to be spent on demolition would be borne by Supertech Ltd.
On the appeal of the selected agency, the Supreme Court has extended the deadline for demolition to August 28.
In September 2021, a 4-member committee was formed under the chairmanship of ODOD and infrastructure development commissioner to take action against the culprits involved in the irregularities. The committee submitted its report on October 1, 2021.
Based on the report of the inquiry committee, on October 3, 2021, FIR was registered in Vigilance Establishment against the officers/employees of the development authority, and director and architect of Supertech Limited.
