Aiming to encourage the growth of the agricultural sector through enhanced facilities, the Yogi Adityanath government 2.0 is going to install more than 50,000 shallow tube wells for small and marginal farmers.

The government feels that better irrigation facilities will gradually lead to an increase in productivity, making the farmers prosperous.

Prioritising farmers’ welfare, the Bharatiya Janata Party in its Lok Sankalp Patra had promised to provide adequate water for irrigation. In this regard, as many as 50,358 shallow tube wells will be installed for small and marginal farmers at a cost of over Rs 46.58 crore.

Private irrigation facilities will also be made available by providing benefits of HDPE (high-density polyethylene) pipe and pump set among others.

In its first term too, the Yogi Adityanath regime had made efforts to remove the problems faced by farmers.

Multiple irrigation projects that were pending for years were completed so that the farming community did not face water crunch for irrigation.

In its second tenure, the Yogi government is going to install shallow tube wells up to 30 meters deep, constructed from PVC pipes of 110 mm diameter. Under Minor Irrigation department’s deep boring scheme, farmers of all categories will be eligible to avail the benefits.

In its first term, the Yogi government had carried out deep boring of depths ranging from 61 metres to 90 metres in the fields. After the bore wells became functional, farmers irrigated about 12 hectares of fields per bore.

In the 2020-21 fiscal, installation of a total of 11,866 shallow tube wells under the scheme of Har Khet Ko Pani, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) and as many as 70,838 under Mukhyamantri Laghu Sinchayee Yojana has been done in the state.

Committed to the state's development, the Yogi government is preparing to expand irrigation facilities for farmers. Providing free power for irrigation is also included in its resolve.

Preparations are also being made to provide grants for the construction of bore wells, tube wells, ponds and tanks to all small and marginal farmers. Solar pumps are also being distributed to farmers by the government.
