The UP government carried out the much-awaited cadre review of the Provincial Police Services (PPS) officers and said a notification would be issued soon to increase the strength of the cadre from 1168 to 1498.

In a high-level meeting chaired by Principal Secretary (Home) RM Srivastava and attended by DGP Deo Raj Nagar and other Home department and police officers on Thursday afternoon, a proposal was mooted to hike the PPS cadre strength by 330 officers, including 76 additional superintendents of police and 254 of deputy superintendents of police.

A Home department communiqué said the government included 10 posts of Addl SPs in the scale of Rs 18400-22400 (revised Rs 37,400-67,000), grade pay Rs 10,000 for the first time.

This will help PPS officers in getting a handsome pay even if they fail to make it to the IPS cadre.

Reviewing measures to check the law and order and organised crime, Srivastava said that the Cyber Cell, Traffic Police, Government Railway Police, Police Control Room, PAC etc. would be further strengthened and more security would be provided to currency chests of important banks.

Similarly, more posts were created in Anti-Corruption Establishment, Economic Offences Wing etc. to dispose of and supervise investigation of cases.

The release confirmed that the new posts added to the PPS cadre included 15 of Addl SP (Special Grade-I) in the pay scale of Rs 16,400-20,000 (revised Rs 37,400-67,000), grade pay Rs 8900; 41 of Addl SP (Special Grade-II) in the pay scale of Rs 14,300-18,300 (revised Rs 37,400-67,000), grade pay Rs 8700; and 10 of Addl SP in pay scale of Rs 12,000-16,500 (revised Rs 15,600-39,100), grade pay Rs 7600.

In the case of the Deputy SP, 132 posts were created in the rank of DySP (senior) in the pay scale of Rs 10,000-15,200 (revised Rs 15,600-39,100), grade pay Rs 6600 and remaining 122 in the rank of DySP (general) in the pay scale of Rs 8000-13,500 (revised Rs 15,600-5,400), grade pay Rs 5400.
