'Govt providing all facilities to sportspersons'

The state Government informed the Uttar Pradesh Assembly that it was providing all facilities to the sportspersons of the state and even giving them 2 per cent reservation in government jobs.

Replying to a question raised by Bahujan Samaj Party member Dharampal Singh on Thursday, Sports Minister Ram Karan Arya said the Government was committed to providing all facilities to sportspersons.

“Due to the better facilities, the sportspersons of the state are performing well in the national and international arena and have won several medals,” the minister said.

He said there were 740 players in sports hostels in different cities and 1,116 players in the sports colleges, and they were being provided all facilities.

“The sportspersons are also given 2 per cent reservation in government jobs,” he said.

However, the BSP member alleged that most of the posts of the Sports Department were lying vacant and no sportsperson was appointed on the post of director. He further charged that as there was no employment for the players, they were opting for other states like Haryana and Punjab.
