Advocating ‘One-district, One- product’ scheme, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the state government has a plan to generate over 70 lakh employment in the next five years by promoting districts, famous for respective products.
“If you think of Bhadohi, carpet comes to your mind. Similar is the case with Aligarh, which is fampus are locks. Brassware of Moradabad and glass industry of Ferozabad too are world famous. And of course, there are silk sarees of Varanasi. We willpromote ‘one district, one product’ to bring them on the global level,” Yogi said while addressing the first Rozgar Summit in lucknow on Tuesday.
The Chief Minister said that there were 75 districts in Uttar Pradesh and majority of them were special in one way or the other. “Some are even famous for ` laddoos’ and `peda’. Then there is Maunath Bhanjan and Tanda the which are famous for garments. We need to target these areas. If we can promote them, we will be able to provide employment to youth at their doorsteps,” he said.
Yogi said that the previous governments had not tapped these districts. “but the situation is changing now. Our new Industrial Policy has been appreciated by private investors and now they are willing to invest in UP. I am told there are 1 crore unemployed youth in UP. If we can tap our resources judiciously, we will be able to provide employment to over 70 lakh youth in the next five years,” he said.
“Both the BSP and the SP regimes used youth as vote bank. The youth helped these parties at the time of adversity but when they asked for employment, these regimes ignored them,” he charged.
The Chief Minister said that UP also has simplified labour laws with focus on the welfare of work force. “There was a time when factories in Bengal had given employment to youth from UP and Bihar. Those industries closed down one by one because of trade unions. We do not want this to happen in UP. Hence, we have simplified our labour laws which centres around welfare of workorce,” he said.
“Another sector we need to look at it is agriculture. We have announced concessions for setting up of agro-based industry in UP. Ours is the first government to announce MSP on potato to ensure that potato growers get remunerative prices. Agriculture is the biggest source of employment – both direct and indirect. Introduction of technology can transform the farm sector in no time,” he opined.
Talking about achievements of his government, Yogi said that farm loan waiver scheme has been implemented and no one can raise a question. “We were asked as to where from will we generate this money. We have managed funds by checking wasteful expenditure,” he informed.
