In a decision that could prove to be a game changer for Samajwadi Party in the next lok Sabha election, the Akhilesh Yadav Government has decided to regularize Shiksha Mitra without appearing in Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET).

This decision that got the approval of the state cabinet here on Friday will benefit around 2 lakh Shiksha Mitra. "This is a historic decision because now the Shiksha Mitras would be absorbed in the Government jobs without TET. They will now work as Government teachers in their own village," general secretary, Uttar Pradesh Shiksha Mitra Sangh Anil Kumar Yadav said. The members of the Sangh distributed sweets in jubilation.

The Government had earlier decided to absorb all Shiksha Mitras in Government job. The members of the Sangh had met Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav last week and had demanded that the mandatory clause of TET should be withdrawn. "The State Government accepted our demand," Anil Yadav said.   In another decision the state government has decided to set up a committee to study measure that could increase Muslim participation in Government jobs. This committee will have four members who would be nominated by the state government. This committee will evaluate the scheme of the central and state governments to impart free coaching and education to Muslim students and comment on its success rate.

"This committee will go in detail to know the percentage of Muslim students who has dropped out in primary section and how the curricula of Madarsas could be standardized," the Government spokesman said. The Government has also formulated guidelines for maintenance of Elders. Under this a maintenance authority would be constituted in each district that would decide the maintenance elderly fathers or mothers should get from their children. This maintenance could go up to maximum Rs 10,000 per month.

The Government has also decided to involve private players in the solid waste management. The solid waste management schemes should be formulated on PPP model. The state cabinet has also given its approval to ask for World Bank loan to set up projects in this department. This loan would be on low but long term interest rate, the spokesman said.

The Government has also increased the retirement age of the UP Secretariat Canteen Services staff from existing 58 to 60 years and has also taken a decision to set up Mandi in Jhansi.
