The Yogi Adityanath government on Tuesday approved corpus fund norms for UP Gau Sanraksha and Samvardhan Act, 2019 and  changed the affiliation of colleges of Amethi district from Kanpur to Ayodhya. The decisions were taken at a Cabinet meeting held in Lucknow on Tuesday.

In one of its decisions, the government changed the affiliation of colleges in Amethi. Earlier, the colleges of Amethi were affiliated to Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University in Kanpur, 250 kilometers away.

State government spokesperson and Health Minister Sidharth Nath Singh said that now, all the colleges in Amethi would be affiliated to Ram Manohar Lohia Awadh University in Ayodhya, which is 90 kilometers from Amethi.

The government also approved norms of the corpus funds for setting up of cow shelter homes (gaushalas) and their maintenance.

“The funds will include private and corporate donations, funds from Centre and state governments, 2 per cent mandi tax,  0.5 per cent excise and 0.5 per cent toll taxes along with other funds approved by the government,” Singh said.

In another decision, the government amended Section 18 of Sugarcane Development Act by replacing ‘commission’ with ‘contribution’. “With the change of a word, the government will save income tax to the tune of Rs 167 crore annually,” the spokesperson said.

Singh said that the government also decided to provide 100 per cent subsidy for revival of Ramala Co-operative Sugar Mill. Earlier, 50 per cent of the loan was arranged from private financial institutions while the rest was state government subsidy.

“With the change in RBI guidelines, norms have been changed and now 100 per cent subsidy will be given by the state government,” the spokesperson said.
