State government denied that suicide by farmer in lakhimpur Kheri recently had anything to do with out standing dues. Government finding cited family reasons responsible for death.

In a statement released by principle secretary (sugar industries and cane development) Rahul Bhatnagar here on Thursday. he claimed that probe into the above matter conducted by district magistrate of lakhimpur Kheri pointed that victim Chotelal had .0452 hectares of land. During last crushing season he sold sugarcane in two parts to Kumbhi sugar mill for which he had slips (December 25/2012 of  22.77 quintals and 16 March/2013 of 24.55 quintals).

Bhatnagar claimed that the entire payment against this crop has been paid to the farmer in his Bank of Baroda (Neemgaon Branch) Ac No-16600100014412 in January (Rs 6176 on Jan 28/2013  and April ( Rs 6767 on April 27) this year. Bhatnagar said that bank records showed that there is no due of Chotelal left with the mill. In wake of the above findings, it was clear that the farmer committed suicide due to any arrear, he added.

It may be mentioned that Chotelal committed suicide last week in lakimpur Kheri and the family members alleged that the victim ended his life as he failed to clear his debts due to non-payment of his dues pending with the above sugar mill against the cane crop. The also said to have provided a suicide note in this regard. The local farmer also kept his body in front of the mill and staged a huge demonstration after which the staff of the mill opened fire on them in the name of self defense. The matter is presently probed by the local police but no action has been taker against the guilty so far.
